Remembering Roxy ‘the biker dog’

Roxy was sent to a better place March 12th 2009. She was almost 13 years old. She suffered from cancer and arthritis. She got real sick the first part of March and we tried to keep her going to make one more appearance at Quaker Steak and Lube’s Bike Nite. Her last ride was on March 6th as she accompanied me to run an errand, see a friend, and a stop at Whetstone Park. Roxy loved to ride, her face in the wind, barking her excitement all the way. She loved the attention she got at bike nites and various charity rides we did, and brought a smile to many peoples faces. She left us peacefully and quietly, and her ashes go with me wherever I ride. Roxy gave me so much, and meant the world to me. I will miss her. In her honor I wanted to ride in the Crusin’ for Canines ride this year, but , will not be able to, but I will be collecting money for the shelter. Roxy and I ask that when you see her trailer, if you so desire, please make a donation. Thank you to all who made Roxy a ‘celebrity’.

REST IN PEACE

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Organizers of Ohio Bike Week say they're worried that the closing of a Harley-Davidson dealership in northern Ohio will hurt the event, an important source of tourism dollars.

Roeder Harley-Davidson in Sandusky has been the main sponsor of Bike Week, which has included live music, races and stunt demonstrations and is scheduled this year for June 5-14.

Many events were to originate at the dealership, which shut its doors Friday after its bank started foreclosure proceedings. Harley-Davidson also says the dealership owes it $2 million.

Bike Week organizer Steve Ernst says a portion of the dealership's campus is expected to remain available, but it's unclear if buildings will be open.

The event began in 2001 as a bike rally that ended on the shores of Lake Erie.

PUBLIC SAFETY CHIEF VOICES SUPPORT FOR RESTORING UNIVERSAL HELMET LAW FOR OHIO MOTORCYCLISTS

The Ohio Department of Public Safety says continued growth in the number of motorcyclists killed in traffic accidents may require the state to take another look at adopting a mandatory helmet law for all riders.

There were 157 fatalities involving motorcyclists inOhioin 2006. The toll rose to 190 deaths in 2007, and reached 213 fatalities last year.

Henry Guzman, the department director, said he would "absolutely" support the General Assembly's enactment of a universal helmet law.
